Lion Man

Lion Man
This is what you do
You’ve done it all before
You pursue, you pounce, you devour
Leaving only blood soaked grass
And paw marks where you’ve tread

You run fast, afraid of Truth
You wipe your heart, your mind
Anything to forget, to erase
Those people you once “loved”
Those faces that you’ve slaughtered
The lies you tell yourself

You’re the worst kind of thief
You greet with smiles, kisses
Charm your way around a room.
To eye your victims, test their resolve,
Teach them the rules
To your unbeatable game

You’re a fraud, a con artist, a liar
Who loves no one, not even himself
You chew up and spit out the sincerest of people
Those who believed in you, who saw your light
Those who lied for you, honored you, saved you

Remember the people who loved you
Who cared enough to risk it all?
Remember what it felt like to be loved
To be seen, accepted, and cherished
Through the rise and fall?

People are more than flesh and bone
More than pawns in your game,
objects to steal
You string them along and they'll shatter
They'll rot, they'll decay,

Oh Lion Man,
Can’t you see?
The path to redemption is there
Out of the darkness, its valley of guilt, mountain of lies
Back through the blood stained grass
Where the light of Truth blazes
Where the real you, the lion cub you, awaits.
